Christmas Celebration Unites Members in Support of Adelaide’s Most Vulnerable

17/11/2025

Members and partners of the Order of Malta in South Australia gathered on November 11, 2025, for Christmas lunch – an event that offered a meaningful opportunity to celebrate fellowship, gratitude, and a shared commitment to serving those in need.

In keeping with tradition of giving at Christmas, attendees contributed food items that will be assembled into care packs for distribution across Adelaide and surrounding suburbs. These packs, delivered directly by members, aim to ensure that vulnerable individuals and families can experience warmth, dignity, and a sense of Christmas joy during the festive season.

During the lunch, members were updated on national developments of the Order of Malta in Australia. A key highlight was news from the recent Asia Pacific Conference (APC), where a formal agreement was signed establishing MIAP (Malta International Asia Pacific). This new initiative is set to bolster the Order’s humanitarian capabilities both in Australia and throughout the region, extending the reach and impact of its charitable mission.

The gathering was further enriched by a presentation from Confrere Maurice O’Connor, who offered heartfelt reflections from his third visit to Ukraine this year. His insights underscored the resilience of communities facing ongoing hardship and the essential role that international support plays in sustaining them.

The 2025 Order of Malta Christmas Lunch in Adelaide stood as a testament to the organisation’s mission—Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum (“Defence of the Faith and Assistance to the Poor”). It provided a moment to celebrate collective service, reaffirm solidarity, and look ahead with renewed hope for those whose lives the Order seeks to uplift.
