Community Palliative Care – Melbourne CBD, Inner West and Western Suburbs

The Order of Malta supports the training and provision of volunteers for palliative care services at Mercy Palliative Care to ensure compassionate care is available to all who need it at this most vulnerable time.

Our volunteers are an important part of a diverse team, which aims to provide the best possible person-centred care and support for our patients, their families and friends.

Prospective volunteers bring their own skills and experiences to the role.

Activities might include:

– support to enable the carer to have a break

– companionship for the patient

– bereavement support for carers

– legacy work (such as transcribing a patient’s life story or writing to family)

– equipment delivery/collection

– administrative support for the Mercy Palliative Care team.

Frequency of service:

– Opportunities exist for one off and weekly activities.

 

Volunteer requirements: 

– Mercy Palliative Care provides initial orientation and ongoing, specialised training and support.

– Volunteers must comply with current, COVID-safe protocols.
