NSW Branch support students achieving Excellence in Palliative Care
Members of the Order of Malta in NSW support Medical students at the University of Notre Dame Sydney, by sponsoring a prize Excellence in Palliative Care.
The 2016 Award was presented to Imogen Mosher on Wednesday 4th May at an awards ceremony. NSW Branch Hospitaller Dr Robert Costa presented the award, accompanied by Members Dr Stephen Quain and Cathy Costa.
In keeping with our Hospitaller Mission, recognition of excellence in studies through prizes and awards enables the most dedicated students receive acknowledgement and rewards for their academic achievements and is a wonderful incentive for each student to strive for excellence.
The NSW Branch also supports the patients and families at the Palliative Care Unit at St Joseph’s Hospital, Auburn
Each year the Branch donates to the Unit to for the doctors to purchase equipment and improved facilities at the unit, which would not be possible within their normal health budget. This has included portable morphine pumps for patient pain relief, refurbishment of the family and quiet room and a prognostic tool to assess patients at the unit, which has avoided the transfer of patients to Auburn District Hospital for assessment.
