Philermos House — also known as The Big Red Shed — relies on the generosity and compassion of volunteers to deliver vital services to the community.

At Philermos House, there are a range of meaningful volunteering opportunities where you can make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Each day, we provide comfort, support, and essential services to individuals experiencing homelessness or facing challenging circumstances.

Open: 7.00 am to 1.00 pm Monday to Friday

Ways You Can Get Involved

  • Preparing and serving meals
  • Making tea and coffee
  • Assisting with laundry and clothing services
  • Greeting visitors and providing support

We offer several pathways to get involved:

  • Individual Volunteering – If you are a member of the local community who wants to make a difference, and can offer a compassionate ear to guests, we would love to hear from you.
  • Corporate Volunteering – Opportunities for organisations and teams to give back while building connection and purpose through community service.
  • Student Placements – Hands-on experience for students completing university or TAFE qualifications.

 

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Hold a valid Blue Card, or be willing to apply for one
