Being a Member of the Order of Malta is a Vocation
Becoming a member of the Order of Malta is more than joining an organisation – it is a vocation. Membership is a calling to glorify God by deepening one’s spiritual life, seeking holiness and expressing it by serving Christ in then needs of others, especially the poor and the sick.
To help those considering membership understand the commitment involved, the Australian Association conducts an Aspirant Formation Program. These sessions are designed to support aspirants as they discern whether they are called to membership, while providing a clear understanding of the Order’s mission, values and expectations.
Throughout the program, aspirants hear from members of the Association’s Executive and have the opportunity to ask questions about the Order, its works and the many ways members can become actively involved in serving others. The sessions also outline the responsibilities of membership and the importance of participating in the spiritual and charitable life of the Association.
The Aspirant Formation Program consists of four online sessions:
- The Purpose of the Order
- The Spirituality of the Order
- Christian Spiritual Works
- The Structure of the Order
The first session in the series, The Purpose of the Order, was held over the weekend, with aspirants from across the Asia Pacific region participating as they began their journey of discernment.
These formation sessions ensure that prospective members are well informed before taking the next step. Better-informed aspirants become more engaged candidates, committed members and, ultimately, help strengthen the Australian Association and its mission of serving the sick, the poor and those most in need.
