Order of Malta Korea Celebrates Its First Lourdes Mass

13/10/2025

On Sunday, 12 October, Order of Malta Korea celebrated its inaugural Lourdes Mass, presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung at Jeoldusan Shrine Church in Seoul.

The Mass brought together members of the Philippine, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Guadalupe, Mexican, Colombian, and Spanish communities, as well as the Sisters of Bethany House and the Friars Minor of St. Francis, all united in a spirit of faith and gratitude.

During his homily on the Gospel of Luke 17:11–19, Fr. John the Apostle Ki-seok Park, Chaplain of Order of Malta Korea, offered a moving reflection on gratitude and healing. He reminded the congregation that true faith begins when one returns to give thanks, a message that deeply resonated with those in attendance.

As a meaningful part of the celebration, participants received small bottles of holy water brought back from the Order’s Lourdes pilgrimage in May, with approximately 100 individuals taking part in this sacred moment.

This historic celebration marks a significant step in the journey of faith, compassion, and healing for Korea’s migrant communities, under the loving care of Our Lady of Lourdes.
