“Living Easter Every Day” – An Hour of Reflection with Most Reverend Charles Gauci DD

21/04/2026

Bishop Charles Gauci led our Hour of Reflection on Saturday morning, 18 April, inviting us to reflect deeply on the theme, “Living Easter Every Day.”

In this Easter season, Bishop Charles reminded us that gratitude lies at the heart of a healthy spiritual life. As Christians, we are called to give thanks for Jesus Christ—his triumph over death, his resurrection, and the enduring promises of God.

As an Easter people, we are people of hope—hope grounded in trust in God’s promises: “I am with you always” and “The gates of hell will not prevail against you.” Even amid the challenges and uncertainties of our world, we are reminded that goodness will ultimately prevail and love will triumph.

Bishop Charles reflected on Christ’s commission to his disciples: not only to baptise, but to make disciples of all nations. This call continues today. As followers of Christ, we are invited into constant mission—to be proclaimers of hope in our communities and beyond.

This mission may at times require us to challenge the status quo and speak out against injustice. Echoing recent calls for peace and human dignity, Bishop Charles highlighted the importance of courageous witness. In the words of Saint Oscar Romero:
“A church that doesn’t provoke any crises, a gospel that doesn’t unsettle, a word of God that doesn’t get under anyone’s skin… what gospel is that?”

A central theme of the reflection was the importance of prayer. Bishop Charles encouraged us not only to say prayers, but to listen—to enter into contemplative prayer and allow space for God to speak. He emphasised the value of structure and discipline, suggesting we begin with 10 minutes each day at a regular time and place, perhaps using Scripture or a simple mantra such as the Jesus Prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

Through faithful practice, this time can grow into a deeper and more sustaining rhythm of prayer.

Above all, Bishop Charles reminded us that we are called to live as Easter people—people of hope, love, and compassion—every day of our lives.
