“Finding God in All Things” – An Hour of Reflection with Rev Dr David Pascoe

30/03/2026

Members were invited to take part in a deeply enriching Hour of Reflection led by Rev Dr David Pascoe, who explored the theme “Finding God in all things.”

Drawing on the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola, Fr David reflected on the call to cultivate a constant awareness of God’s presence in everyday life. He reminded participants of St Paul’s exhortation to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), encouraging a spirit of continual prayer grounded in attentiveness and openness to God.

Fr David also highlighted the example of the seventeenth-century Carmelite lay brother, Brother Lawrence, whose simple life in a monastery kitchen became a powerful witness to what he described as “the practice of the presence of God.”

This spirituality—finding God in all things—requires intentional awareness and a willingness to remain open to God’s presence in both ordinary and extraordinary moments. Over time, this Ignatian approach becomes a habit, gradually woven into the fabric of daily life.

A text dear to Pope Leo XIV, The Practice of the Presence of God, offers further insight into this way of living and is now included as part of the formation reading for members preparing for Obedience.
