Between the Idea and the Reality: The Future of Marriage in Australia

06/09/2017

On 8th August the Most reverend Anthony Fisher OP, Archbishop of Sydney presented the 2017 Harman Lecture (named after Fr Frank Harman, the Melbourne Archdiocese’s leading bioethicist and canon lawyer until his death in 2000).
His Grace’s topic “Between the Idea and the Reality: The Future of Marriage in Australia” noted that that most resilient of institutions – marriage and the marriage-based family – is in crisis today. He reflected, in dialogue with Amores Laetitia, on the positive resources with which Catholics can address this crisis, both scholarly and non-scholarly.
The Lecture was hosted by Bishop Peter Elliott, the Director of the John Paul 2 Institute for Marriage and Family.
At the conclusion of the lecture a presentation was made to Conseour Professor Tracey Rowland, Dean of the JP2 Institute, for her role with the Institute.
