Recording Link: Reflection with Bishop Charles Gauci – 25 May 2024
We are grateful to the Most Reverend Charles Gauci DD, who, on the 25th May 2024, led 28 Members and friends in an online reflection upon ‘Images of God and Prayer, Seeking the God who is’.
Bishop Charles reminded us how we can to overcome our spiritual poverty through renewing our encounter with Christ. “Begin with a quiet, comfortable space. Perhaps ponder a verse from Scripture or the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. Or consider how a Priest’s homily resonated with your day”.
Bishop Charles then invited us to meditate beyond the tangible. We know many images of God. Yet we need to open ourselves to the presence of God which transcends our conscious understanding or all visual representation.
“Try not to think about God. Try to be present to God’s reality”.
If we stay only with the images of God that we know – the shepherd, the husband, the bridegroom, the mother-hen, the old man with the beard – we are not allowing ourselves to fully connect with the unfathomable reality of God.
The deeper our spiritual relationship with the reality of God, the stronger our sustenance to serve our daily mission of Service of the Sick and Poor and Defence of the Faith. Towards sanctification of the soul.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8).
Let us surrender ourselves to God “who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Eph 3:20).
All members, candidates, volunteers, family, and friends are welcome to share the formation series, “An Hour of Reflection with a Chaplain” of the Order of Malta.
