Archbishop Anthony Fisher Elected Chief Chaplain of the Order of Malta Australia
The Order of Malta Australia is pleased to announce the election of Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP, Archbishop of Sydney, as the new Chief Chaplain of the Australian Association.
As a distinguished leader within the Catholic Church in Australia, Archbishop Fisher brings to the role a deep commitment to the spiritual and charitable mission of the Order. His election reflects the respect and trust he holds among members and chaplains alike.
Archbishop Fisher succeeds Archbishop Mark Coleridge, who the Australian Association thanks sincerely for his dedicated service and spiritual leadership over recent years.
In his new capacity as Chief Chaplain, Archbishop Fisher will guide the spiritual life of the Australian Association, support the chaplaincy across the country, and accompany members in living out the Order’s charism: defence of the faith and service to the sick and the poor.
A long-time supporter of the Order’s work, Archbishop Fisher joined the Order of Malta as a Chaplain in 2003 has consistently encouraged the integration of faith and action, urging members to be “authentic witnesses to Christ through concrete acts of charity.” He is frequently the celebrant of the annual Lourdes Day Mass in Sydney and is a trusted spiritual advisor to members of the Order, offering both guidance and encouragement in their mission to serve the sick and the poor. His pastoral leadership will be a valuable asset as the Order continues to respond to the needs of the poor and vulnerable in contemporary Australia.
The Australian Association warmly welcomes Archbishop Fisher to this important role and assures him of its prayers and full support as he begins his service as Chief Chaplain.
