Notice of the Death of Peter Van de Velde
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
John 11:25
It is with deep sadness, yet with firm hope in the Resurrection, that the Australian Association announces the death of our dear confrere, Peter Van de Velde, who died on Saturday, 24 October.
On behalf of the Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences and the assurance of our prayers to Peter’s family and loved ones during this time of grief.
A Faithful Servant of the Order
Invested in the Order in 1998, Peter gave nearly three decades of steadfast and dedicated service. He was known among his confreres as a man who found his vocation in defending the Faith and who deeply treasured the bonds of confraternal friendship.
As Lecture Series leader for the then NSW Branch, Peter devoted himself to helping ordinary Catholics understand, live and defend their Faith. Among his many contributions to the Order, he organised a series of talks for members, aspirants and friends, exploring the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity, as well as the history and spirituality of the Order.
Peter also supported the region’s Vigil Mass and contributed to reflections for the Feasts of Blessed Gerard and St John the Baptist.
Through his dedication and the gatherings he so faithfully prepared, Peter helped form and strengthen the vocations of many within our community. His commitment to the Faith, his service to the Order and his spirit of friendship will be remembered with gratitude.
We give thanks to Almighty God for Peter’s life, his faith and his generous service to the Order.
Please Pray for Peter
We ask all members and friends of the Order to pray for the repose of Peter’s soul and for the consolation of his family and loved ones. Peter will be remembered at the Association’s next online Rosary, as well as at Mass for the faithful departed.
May we entrust him to the loving mercy of God, confident in the promise of the Resurrection.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Blessed Gerard, pray for him.
St John the Baptist, pray for him.
Our Lady of Philermos, pray for him.
