X-Ray Machine Update: A Major Step Forward for the Timor-Leste Clinic

07/05/2026

We are pleased to share an important milestone in improving patient care at the Timor-Leste clinic.

In December, a special dollar-matching appeal was launched to raise $135,000 for the purchase of a much-needed X-ray machine. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of supporters, $52,500 was raised and subsequently matched by the Order of Malta New Zealand, bringing the total to $105,000.

Since then, continued donor support has enabled the remaining funding gap to be closed, and we are now in a position to place the order for the machine. Delivery and installation are expected by the end of Q3 2026.

This equipment will have a transformative impact on healthcare delivery at the clinic. At present, patients requiring X-rays must travel to the National Hospital in Dili—a journey that is often difficult or simply impossible for many patients.

Once operational, the clinic will be able to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions on site, including fractures and respiratory illnesses. Given that infectious respiratory disease is among the most common presentations at the clinic, the addition of this equipment will significantly improve care for thousands of patients each year.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all donors and supporters whose generosity has made this important development possible.

The Ongoing Challenge – Sustaining the Clinic

The clinic operates five days a week, providing free primary healthcare to vulnerable communities across Timor-Leste. It costs almost $19,000 each month to sustain the clinic and outreach services—around $15 per patient engagement, including consultations, medicines, vaccinations, and medical supplies.

To help ensure this vital work can continue, we invite supporters to consider becoming monthly donors. Regular giving provides the stability needed to plan services with confidence and ensure no patient is turned away.

A monthly donation of:

  • $45 supports approximately 36 patient engagements per year
  • $100 supports approximately 80 patient engagements per year
  • $200 supports approximately 160 patient engagements per year

Every contribution makes a real difference in helping us continue providing essential healthcare to those most in need.
