Lady of Philermos Mass – Newman College

09/09/2024

Members of the South Eastern Region celeberated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, venerated by the Order as our Lady of Philermos at Newman College,. Melbourne University. This is a long held tradition for the South Eastern Region that dates back to early members and chaplains of the Order who themselves associated with the Jesuit run residential college.

This year saw members of the South Eastern region, family and friends join the regular congregation in celebrating the sacred feast day with the accompaniment of the magnificent Newman college choir and string quartet directed by Gary Ekkel. The Mass was celeberated by fr Daniel Madigan SJ who in his introduction and homily displayed great knowledge and understanding of the Orders history and charism.

Refreshments and morning team were shared amongst the congregation afterwards and many discussed with fondness memories of our recently deceased chaplain Father Gearld O’Collins SJ who had always been a regular at this Mass.
