Three Years of Service: Order of Malta and ACU Community Café at Agg St
This week marks three years since the Order of Malta and ACU Community Café began its week visits to the Agg St community. Over this time, the program has grown into a vital space of connection, laughter, and mutual support — a place where challenges can be voiced, friendships are formed, and members of the community feel valued and heard.
What is the Community Café?
The Community Café is more than just a place to enjoy a coffee. It is a welcoming space where vulnerable and marginalised individuals can gather safely, share experiences, and receive practical support. The café provides free drinks and snacks, companionship, and social connection to those who might otherwise face isolation or hardship. Volunteers from the Order of Malta and other community partners help create a warm, inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Three Years of Impact
Since the beginning of this partnership, the café has been a place of friendship, encouragement, and practical assistance. Guests have the opportunity to engage with volunteers and each other, access information about community services, receive administration support and feel a sense of belonging.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Volunteers
This milestone would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers from the Order of Malta. Week after week, they show up with compassion, energy, and commitment, helping the café run smoothly and creating an atmosphere of care and respect. Their service is the heartbeat of this program, ensuring the Agg St community continues to feel welcomed and supported.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on three years of service, we look forward to many more years of partnership and community engagement. Through shared conversations, and support, the Order of Malta and the ACU Community Café will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
