First crop harvested at the Agg Street Community Garden

Earlier this week, a couple of keen gardeners were up at the crack of dawn to harvest the first Agg Street Community Garden crop, which was then shared amongst the residents. It was a very exciting and proud moment for all involved!
The Agg Street Public Housing Estate is home to 55 senior residents (aged 55+). Many live on their own and experience, to varying degrees, loneliness and isolation and is one of the locations visited by the Order of Malta and ACU Community Hub Mobile Community Café. These weekly Mobile Community Café meetings provide an opportunity for participants to seek assistance and connect community members with other services and support available to them. It has also identified other needs of the residents that the Hub can assist with.
One outcome of the Mobile Community Café was the development of the Agg Street community garden. In addition to providing residents with fresh fruit and vegetables is provides a safe place where residents could come together to grow food, get to know each other, and build community.
