About Gorman House:

Gorman House is a 20 bed detoxification unit which offers shelter to some of  Sydney’s most marginalised and problematic population sufferring from severe drug and alcohol problems, and who are often refused services by other agencies. Many have multiple addictions and some have histories of violence and/or self harm. A large number who seek refuge in Gorman Hosue are homeless and as a result of their drug dependencies, often suffering from deep psychiatric illnesses.

Gorman House provides them with the care and support they need, particularly with physical health intervention, mental health and psychological support.

The staff are highly trained health professionals who are experts in drug effects, intoxication withdrawal and associated issues. The average length of stay is 4 to 5 days, being the clinical period required for detoxification. Residents are encouraged to find more stable accommodation or a longer-term rehabilitation unit and recalim responsibility for their lives. Some marvellous lifestyle changes have been achieved for people who have come to Gorman House for help.
