Australian member awarded highest-ranking honour of the Italian Republic

18/02/2025

Order of Malta Australia member, Confrere Carlo Randazzo, has been honoured by the Italian Government with the title of Comendatore della Repubblica Italiana.

The Comendatore della Repubblica Italiana (Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic) is one of the highest honours awarded by the Italian Republic. It recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation and is bestowed by the President of the Italian Republic, based on the recommendation of the President of the Council of Ministers.

Carlo was awarded this title for his role as Honorary Consul for Italy in the Northern Territory. He has worked tirelessly for almost 30 years to create and maintain a network of support and collaboration between Italy and Australia, via the preservation of Italian identity and the promotion of national prestige, contributing to strengthening ties between the two countries.

His work has included providing consular services to the NT Italian community, promoting the Italian language, philanthropic activities and commercial enterprises. In 1999/2000 he assisted the Italian military contribution to the Interfet mission’s relief efforts in Timor Leste, and in 2024, he assisted the Italian Air Force and Navy while taking part for the first time in the Indo-Pacific  regional exercises Pitch Black. During the 2023-2025 world tour of the iconic Italian ship the “Amerigo Vespucci”, Carlo also facilitated its visit to Darwin.

Congratulations Carlo on this well-deserved award.
