09/03/2017

WANTED:  SENIOR DOCTOR AT THE ORDER OF MEDICAL MALTA CLINIC IN DILI, TIMOR-LESTE

A position is available as the Senior Doctor at the Order of Malta Clinic in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, one of the poorest countries in South-East Asia with a population of around 1.2 million people. The Order of Malta is one of the oldest medical charities in the world.

This new, purpose-built medical clinic will be run by the Order of Malta to provide basic primary out of hospital medical care and education to the people of Timor-Leste. In the initial period, the primary emphasis will be on the care of women and children.

The Role

We are looking for a medical graduate of an internationally recognized School of Medicine who can be registered in Timor-Leste as a medical practitioner. Applicants should be:

  • Fluent in English
  • Have at least 5 years practice beyond residency with experience in primary health care, paediatric and maternal health (preferably in a rural and remote setting)
  • Previous experience in a developing country is desirable
  • Experience in administration and supervision of allied health staff is an advantage, as is an interest in teaching.

The position will be challenging but highly satisfying. The aim is to be involved in the training of health care workers in Timor-Leste, hopefully in conjunction with training institutions in Timor-Leste and Australia. Applicants with associations with such organisations are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will report to the Directors of the Order of Malta Clinic, who are supported by a Medical Advisory Committee of senior clinicians in Australia.

The Clinic

The clinic’s design and physical layout follows the regulations stipulated by healthcare authorities in Australia and the guidelines laid down by the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners. It is hoped that integration with the healthcare system of Timor-Leste will eventually be achieved. More information about the clinic can be found at www.orderofmaltaclinic.org.tl

The facility will operate within the boundaries and teaching of the Roman Catholic faith and the charism of the Order of Malta.

Remuneration

The salary and benefits package will be negotiated and tailored to the applicant.

To apply please send a CV and covering letter to enquiries@orderofmaltaclinic.org.tl
