HOUR OF REFLECTION WITH FR BRIAN BOYLE 29 MARCH 2025

Are you shipwrecked or land-locked? A reflection on the call of Isaiah to be

prophet (Isaiah 6:1-13) and the call of Peter to be apostle (Luke 5:1-11)

Chaplain to the Order and biblical scholar, with a particular interest in the prophetic literature, Fr Brian Boyle, presented an Hour of Reflection on Saturday 29 March, to which he gave the title, “Are you shipwrecked or land-locked? A reflection on the call of Isaiah to be prophet (Isaiah 6:1-13) and the call of Peter to be apostle (Luke 5:1-11).”

Fr Brian first led participants through a thought-provoking reflection on the accounts in Scripture of Isaiah’s call to be prophet and Peter’s call to be apostle. Fr Brian followed this with a reading from the life of St Francis of Assisi when Brother Leo asked Francis about how to achieve purity of heart (and Francis replied “keep your attention on Him and His grace”).

This Hour of Reflection prompted us to make time in our lives for silence and quiet contemplation in order that we might better hear what the Lord asks of us, individually and as a community.

Fr Brian read a beautiful prayer written by Pope Francis when he was in hospital. This starts from 54:20 in the recording. But do watch the whole recording.

All members, candidates, volunteers, family, and friends are welcome to share the monthly formation series, “An Hour of Reflection with a Chaplain” of the Order of Malta. The next session in the series is scheduled for 24 May 2025, led by Fr Anthony Casamento, csma.
