Order of Malta in Brisbane continues welcoming people in need through ECM

13/09/2022

“Smiling says you’re welcome without saying nothing”.

A shy guest at the Emmanuel City Mission (ECM) sanctuary for homeless and vulnerable people confided how living on the street can be “unpredictable” and “often lonely”, so he cherishes the consistent, smiling welcome he receives from the ECM community and Order of Malta Members and Volunteers (OMV). He hopes this friendly stability may help him to “kick some demons” and reconnect with his children and their mothers.

Every day, this ECM sanctuary welcomes people in need to share free meals, essential care items and facilities, and communal conversations in a safe, clean and warm environment. As our OMV team has consistently served on scheduled Sundays for over a year, it is heartwarming and mutually enriching to feel part of this inclusive community.

We welcome new volunteers to register your expression of interest via https://www.orderofmalta.org.au/i-want-to-help/volunteer/
