Investiture Mass in Sydney for the Feast of John the Baptist

26/06/2022

5 new members were received into the Order of Malta , and three incumbent members took their Promise of Obedience at an Investiture Mass celebrated on 24 June 2022 at the Crypt, St Mary’s Cathedral.

The Mass was presided by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP and concelebrated by Bishop Danny Meagher and Fr James McCarthy. Fr Anthony Robbie acted as Master of Ceremony. These are all chaplains of the Order of Malta and have provided valuable spiritual direction to new members during their year of preparation.

Membership in the Order of Malta, a lay religious order, is not a honorific accomplishment in spite of being called “knights” and “dames”. It entails a commitment to glorify Our Lord through ongoing spiritual development expressed by providing g personal service to the poor and sick, and defending the Catholic faith.

Members who take the Promise of Obedience commit to a more stringent spiritual life.
One new member flew in from Japan to be received into the Order.
