Northern Territory Chief Justice receives the Cross Pro Merito Melitensi

21/03/2018

A Mass was recently celebrated at St Mary’s Cathedral in Darwin to honour the current Northern Territory Chief Justice and bestow upon him the Cross Pro Merito Melitensi which had been granted by Sovereign Council in 2017.

The Order pro Merito Melitensi is the order of merit of the Order of Malta, established in 1920. It is awarded to recipients who have brought honour to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, promoted Christian values and charity as defined by the Roman Catholic Church.

Chief Justice Michael Grant QC received the Cross for his work in the law and for his commitment to the principles of the order of Tuitio Fidei and Obsequium Pauperum. He is a long standing friend of the Order in the Territory and has lent his reputation and his time in furthering the aims of the Order in his professional and in his personal life.

He was accompanied in the Mass by his wife Marita and Courtney, (one of their two daughters.)

The mass was concelebrated by our Magistral Chaplain Father Malcom Fyfe MSC, Father Tom Jose CMI and our Conventual Chaplain Ad honorem Bishop Eugene Hurley.
