Advent Mass and Mission Dinner Strengthen Order of Malta’s Commitment to Brisbane’s Vulnerable
On 9 December, members, volunteers and guests of the Order of Malta in Queensland gathered for our traditional Advent Mass, concelebrated by Regional Chaplains Bishop Ken Howell and Fathers David Pascoe and Gerard McMorrow.
In his homily, Bishop Ken reflected on his recent experience at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival. He shared his excitement at witnessing the enthusiasm of more than 6,000 young people, and spoke about the profound importance of feeling a sense of belonging within the Faith and the Church. He extended this message to highlight the vital role our Order plays in helping others feel welcomed—often through the very works we carry out in our communities.
Following Mass, participants continued the evening with a private dinner at Emmanuel City Mission. Together, we celebrated the achievements of 2025 and looked ahead to the challenges – and opportunities – of 2026. A cherished tradition also continued, with members and guests generously donating new underwear for ECM, supporting their ministry to Brisbane’s most vulnerable with compassion rooted in Gospel values.
