Support provided to those affected by drought in Rockhampton Diocese
In Queensland, farmers are in the midst of the most extensive drought on record and has had a devastating effect on the farming community due to the subsequent hardship that this has had on their liveilihood. In some cases, farmers have had to kill many hundred heads of livestock due to a lack of feed.
The QLD Branch of the Order of Malta have made a donation of $17,000 to the Rockhapmton Diocese Drought Appeal to assist those affected by this ongoing natural disaster.
The appeal money has been used to send parcels of household items to affected families and at the end of January400 round bales of hay were delivered to the area just west of
Longreach and around the Ilfracombe area where the worst of the drought still rages.
