Philermos House: The Big Red Shed Opening 6 October 2026

The Order of Malta Australia is pleased to announce the opening of Philermos House — The Big Red Shed, a new day centre offering hospitality and practical assistance to the Gold Coast community.

Opening 6 October, Philermos House will provide a welcoming and supportive environment for people who may be experiencing hardship or facing challenges in their daily lives.

The centre will offer a range of practical services, including:

Breakfast and lunch
Showers and laundry facilities
Clothing
Referrals and connections to other support services
A welcoming place to rest, meet others and receive assistance with dignity and respect

Regular Opening Hours

Monday to Friday | 7.00am–1.00pm

Breakfast: From 7.15am
Lunch: 12.00pm–1.00pm
Showers and laundry: 7.15am–11.00am

Philermos House reflects the Order of Malta’s longstanding commitment to serving those most in need. At its heart is a simple mission: to offer practical assistance alongside the human warmth of hospitality, friendship and respect.

The name Philermos carries a special significance for the Order of Malta, recalling Our Lady of Philermos, a cherished devotion in the Order’s history.

The opening of The Big Red Shed marks an exciting new chapter in the Order of Malta’s service on the Gold Coast. Through the generosity and dedication of volunteers, members and supporters, Philermos House will seek to be a place where people are welcomed, heard and supported.
