Candidates Australia wide have commenced their year of preparation

16/06/2020

In scene that is being repeated nationwide, candidates are meeting with our Chaplains and sponsors to start their year of preparation.

Principal Chaplain for the Sub-Priory of the immaculate Conception Fr Gerald O’Collins AC SJ met with three candidates last night to accompany them as they commence their year of preparation. Working from the new Handbook for the Year of Preparation, candidates were taken through elements of the program including prayer, study, discernment and activities within the Order.

Prayer and service are the foundation of the candidates new spiritual home and Father O’Collins emphasised that prayer, sacramental life with a focus on the scripture will be an important part of his role as Spiritual Companion for the candidates. Sponsors also play and important role supporting and ensuring that the candidate participates in activities within the Order and in particular the ‘hands on’ service element of our charism and were on hand also to meet with other sponsors and candidates.

O Lord, in a world where many are lonely, we thank you for our friendships.

In a world where many are captive, we thank you for our freedom

In a. world where many are hungry, we thank you for your food.

We pray that you will enlarge our sympathy, deepen our compassion, and give us ever grateful hearts.

Fr Gerald O’Collins AC SJ
