Wheelchair Project 2018
Reported by Adrian Borg Cardona, Member of the Order of Malta in Thailand
After the success we had in distribution 50 wheelchairs in December 2016, the members and aspirants of the Order undertook to continue the Wheelchair Project in 2017.
56 wheelchairs were dispatched to 7 provinces around Thailand early in February 2018. With the generosity of Consoeur Dr. Orawan and Aspirant Pipat, Pioneer Logistics Co., Ltd were used to transport the wheelchairs to the dioceses of Nakorn Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Ratchaburi, Udon Thani, Ta Rae, Chiang Mai and Nakon Sawan.
The wheelchairs will be distributed to the sick and poor, many living in dire poverty, in towns and remote villages. It is indeed very hard to deliver a small number where hundreds are needed, but the Order in Thailand is determined to continue to deliver every year to those who need the wheelchairs most.
Two wheelchairs were delivered by Aspirant Pamela Chavali at Nakorn Ratchasima Diocese, on Friday 16th February and where received by Fr. Charnchai.
On 22nd February 2018, 8 wheelchairs were presented by Confrere Adrian Borg Cardona on behalf of the members to The Catholic Mission in Chiang Mai and were received by Fr. Sangchai. They will be sent to remote hill villages, where in the future members of the Order hope to visit and meet the recipient of the wheelchairs.
