Valentine’s day Lunchbox service: “Helping others is a beautiful way to show love!”
February is a month full of celebration for Koreans with the Lunar New Year holiday, which is a major traditional holiday where families gather and enjoy home-cooked meals as people welcome the arrival of the new year by the lunar calendar, and of course the Valentine’s day where love is expressed to those close to you by heart.
It was a true blessing that the Order of Malta Korea was able to serve the forgotten neighbors, to whom these celebrations are simply unrealistic luxury, with its lunchbox service on both the Lunar New Year day on the 5th, as well as the Valentine’s day on the 14th. We were extra grateful for those volunteers who came in to help on these special days, sharing the Love of God, making the service all the more special by ensuring these neighbors in the slum are not left forgotten on these festive days.
One of our regular volunteers who has been participating for over a year said at the end of her service on the Valentine’s day, “helping others is a beautiful way to show love!”
Following these two days, the service was carried out continuously as a weekly program on the 19th and 28th of February, where the members and volunteers served total 980 lunchboxes through its four weekly services to the forgotten neighbors in the slum.
