This Christmas please consider a Coat for the Homeless on your gift list

13/11/2019

As we approach the end of 2019 and start preparations for Christmas, members of the Order of Malta Australia would like to thank everyone who has supported our activities this year.

In 2019 our projects have made a huge difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our community and our sincerest appreciation goes to our donors, volunteers and members who have made this possible.

Next year our state-based projects in palliative care, homeless shelters, community care and personal advocacy will also continue and expand to help more people in need.

Yet there is still so much we can do to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

We are now planning the 2020 Coats for the Homeless distribution. We would like to again distribute 6,000 Coats across Australia next winter.

However it is not just in winter that the homeless need our help.

Poor health amongst the homeless is common and much of it is preventable. Our outreach volunteer teams who work with the homeless have recognised that by offering them a simple hygiene pack containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and sanitary items for women, we could make a big impact on not only their daily life but longer term physical health.

“For women on the street, who are usually in desperate and difficult circumstances, the provision of sanitary items not only promotes their health and wellbeing but self-worth and dignity. It is something many of us take for granted and should not have to be a choice for anyone.”
Erin Longbottom, Order of Malta Outreach Nurse, St Vincents Homeless Health Service

As Christmas approaches, we would ask you to consider including a gift to the homeless on your list. Your donation will go directly to supporting projects to assist the homeless and donations of $2 or more are also tax deductible.

A gift of $100 could buy:

  • Three specially designed, warm, shower-proof Coats for the Homeless
  • Fifteen hygiene packs for distribution to the homeless and disadvantaged

Donate online now using our PayPal donation facility

Thank you for your support.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families an abundance of God’s blessings this Christmas and throughout the New Year.
