Thai members distribute blankets to needy as cold nights draw in

09/11/2020

Members of the Order of Malta in Thailand have begun distributing blankets to the needy to help protect them from the cooler winter nights.

On 1 November, member Dr.Virachai distributed on behalf of the Order of Malta 500 blankets to the parishioners of seven churches in Khao Kho, Phetchabun, Chart Trakarn district and Phitsanulok. He also donated on behalf of the members, two toilets which were reconstructed at The Blessed Nicholas Boongerd Church at Nakorn Thai district in Phitsanulok.

Later in the week a further 325 blankets were distributed in Ubon Ratchanthani, including Wat Baan Dong Yung, a Buddhist temple that will assist distributing the blankets to the 100 local families who are struggling with poverty and unable to buy blankets to keep their families warm.

Blankets were also provided to Noonhon Health Centre which is familiar with the Order of Malta, as members have visited few times previously to donate wheelchairs, diapers and in January 2020 a medical van to assist the nurses and volunteers to visit the sick at home and for the sick to be transported to the Health Centre or Hospitals for check ups. Prior to the van the only means of transport was motor cycles.

By the end of November, 3,600 blankets will be distributed by members to the needy in Thailand.
