Members Pray and Reflect at retreat in South Australia
South Australian Members of the Order of Malta gathered at the Sevenhill Centre of Ignatian Spirituality in the Claire wine region for our 3-day retreat from 13-15 October 2023.
Fr. Rob Morris SJ led our annual retreat with gentleness, grace, and warmth. In a previous online interview, Fr. Rob reflected.
You really experience God’s presence when people open up their own spiritual journey to you. It deepens your own consolation and communion with God. You realise, as weak as we are, and as much as we might struggle to pray ourselves, that God works through us, that we are instruments of God’s work. It’s very humbling in that sense.
All of us on retreat experienced God’s presence as we shared our faith journey and were led by Fr Rob through group discussions, Ignatian Spiritual Exercises and prayer.
We were also mindful that our retreat was held on the Order’s first World ( Saturday, 14 October) with ten other countries participating in the initiative. Our discussions, therefore, held special significance as we reflected on our ministry in “Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum”: nurturing, witnessing and protecting the faith (tuitio fidei) and serving the poor and the sick (obsequium pauperum).
All Order members are welcome to our October 2024 retreat at the same venue.
