Members, candidates, volunteers and friends of the Order attend celebrations in Melbourne

17/02/2021

Report by Conf. David Blackwell

The South Eastern Region’s first monthly Vigil Mass for 2021 was held on Thursday 3rd February at St Peter’s Church, Toorak commencing at 7.00pm. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Terry Curtin.

A good number of members, candidates, volunteers and friends of the Order attended. We were blessed, as at that time, wearing a face covering was not mandatory, but we still needed to carry one and the 1.5m distancing rules were observed.

It was spiritually uplifting to be able to actually go to Mass again with our members.

Our first monthly Lourdes Mass for twelve months was held at Mercy Place Parkville on Wednesday 10 February.

Due to social distancing requirements, two Masses were celebrated by Bishop Terry Curtin. COVID-19 safe requirements for everyone entering an aged care home were undertaking with staff at the front door assisting members of the Order with screening questions, hand hygiene and the taking of temperatures.  Given the present restrictions on visitors, the number of members of the Order attending was limited.

There is no better way to demonstrate our Ministry by spending a part of the day with the Lord’s Elderly and Sick as the Mysteries of Lourdes we take to the homes convey comfort, joy, faith and hope to the residents and their families.  It is indeed a privilege.
