Members, Candidates and friends of the Order share Mass in Brisbane

10/02/2021

Wednesday 10th February, preparing for Lent, 17 members, 4 candidates, family and friends of The Order of Malta, North Eastern Region met to celebrate Mass with Chaplain, Fr Gerard McMorrow, and have our first meeting for 2021. We were welcomed by the community of Holy Spirit Parish, New Farm.

Mass was especially relevant on this occasion as it was the feast of the shipwreck of St Paul on Malta and the vigil for the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Our meeting was very much about how the Order will be striving to be hands-on for Members and Volunteers in 2021. Projects canvased were

  • The Order of Malta Volunteers (OMV) being about to commence service as a team with Emmanuel City Mission, South Brisbane.
  • The idea of the N.E.R. investigating the proposal for an outreach van to be acquired.
  • The Order becoming involved with the Southport Parish to establish an outreach centre in Southport.

Discussion was also had regarding the Plebiscite that was currently underway and the successful integration of the Order’s finances nationally.

Many meeting participants then went on to enjoy a social evening at one of our regular supporter’s restaurant, The Continental Café.
