Indonesia earthquake and tsunami: a month later, Malteser International still supporting reconstruction of health facilities

07/11/2018

A month after the deadly earthquake and tsunami that hit Indonesia, the worldwide relief agency of the Order of Malta, Malteser International, is supporting its Indonesian partner, YAKKUM with the repair and rehabilitation of damaged health centers on the island of Sulawesi.

In addition to the assistance for reconstruction and rehabilitation, Malteser International has also made emergency funds available to deliver essential relief materials to the surrounding communities. A Malteser International finding team was immediately deployed on site for a first assessment.

The major earthquake and tsunami has caused the death of over 2,000 people and has also caused extensive damage to basic infrastructure like roads, electricity and water lines. There are still around 375,000 children in dire need of help.

Malteser International has been working with YAKKUM since the 2004 tsunami.
