Compassion for those with no home
On Saturday 4 November the North-Central Region conducted a further food distribution for the homeless. Our program delivers a nutritious meal to homeless people living rough, often in bushland where many of the homeless camp.
For the first time we had two teams which meant we had the ability to distribute food in both the Darwin City and Palmerston regions on the same day. For this purpose, we had prepared 96 meals which was a significant increase from previous efforts.
Our distribution round finds a diverse group of people, usually camped in bushland on the edge of the city or in the park areas. They often are found in places that makes them less visible to authorities or the general public for a variety of reasons. As a result, they are not always easy to find.
Though our service is limited to food distribution we do find people that are sometimes in need of medical care. On this occasion one person was clearly unwell and our volunteers called an ambulance for them as they had no mobile phone.
We would like to recognise and thank the volunteers who assisted the members of the Order with the meal preparation and distribution. Without their assistance the service would be restricted. Our next service is scheduled for the beginning of December.
