Community Care Van service assists Newcastle’s homeless

08/06/2022

The Order of Malta Community Care Van has launched a limited service into NSW’s second largest city, Newcastle.  Working with our partners at Reach Homeless Services in the inner western suburb of Hamilton and Soul Cafe in inner city Newcastle, our volunteers distributed 60 #CoatsfortheHomeless to Newcastle’s most vulnerable last week.

Our volunteers will return to Newcastle again on 8-9 July to work with our local partners to reach homeless who we were unable to reach on this first trip. It is hoped, that building on the success of the first involvement with Newcastle this year, that this Newcastle limited service will become a thrice annual service of the Order of Malta during winter and – subject to the availability of volunteers and funding – lay the foundations for potential consideration of a year-round service in future years.
