2023 Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide Marian Procession

31/05/2023

The Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide Marian Procession began in 1949 and is Australia’s longest-running consecutive Catholic event. It is a beautiful opportunity to gather Catholic communities and provide a prayerful experience with Mary at the centre. The Order of Malta’s involvement in the Procession also has a long and proud history, with members leading the Procession for many years.

On Sunday, May 21 2023, the Procession celebrated 74 years and moved back to a procession and rosary through the main streets of Adelaide, attended by over 2,000 people. Archbishop Patrick O’Regan DD, Bishop Gregory O’Kelly SJ AM , Members of the Order Phil and Damian Wyld, and Noel Mifsud the 2023 Procession with the Knights and Dames of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Each year a different Marian image or theme is selected for the Procession to highlight a feast or event within the Catholic Church or celebrate a local community or parish. The Procession is followed by a time of prayer, a reflection on the Gospel, a collection and concludes with benediction.

The simplicity has always been and will remain in the gathering, praying the rosary and coming together in community to be a public witness of our Catholic faith.
